Answer all four and the checklist appears here.
Gondaliya CPA Professional Corporation is a registered EFILE electronic filer. Returns are prepared and transmitted in Canada. Credentials are never shared and never used offshore.
Two Things Are Always Needed
Every nil T2 needs the corporation identified, which is its name, its Business Number and the fiscal year dates for the year being filed, and it needs Form T183CORP signed before the return is transmitted.
Everything else on the list depends on what the corporation holds and whether this is its first return.
Why GIFI Turns Up on a Nil Return
The most misunderstood part of a nil return is that it still carries GIFI schedules. Any one of share capital, cash, a shareholder loan, an incorporation cost or a bank charge makes Schedules 100, 125 and 141 all required, and a corporation with shares issued has share capital.
The GIFI schedule requirement checker runs those five triggers one by one.
What You Do Not Need
No audited financial statements. No bookkeeping for a year with no transactions. No appointment. The whole return is built from the answers on the form and the schedules the corporation’s own position requires, and all of it is inside $300.00 plus HST per tax year.
What Each Item on the Checklist Carries
The list the tool produces is short, and every item on it is there for a reason. This is what each one is and what puts it on the list.
| Item | What it is | On the list when |
|---|---|---|
| Corporation identification | Name, Business Number and the fiscal year dates for the year being filed | Always |
| Form T183CORP | The authorisation that lets the return be transmitted electronically, signed by a signing officer | Always |
| GIFI Schedule 100 | The balance sheet in the standard index | Any one of share capital, cash, a shareholder loan, an incorporation cost or a bank charge exists |
| GIFI Schedule 125 | The income statement in the same index | As Schedule 100 — the three go together |
| GIFI Schedule 141 | The notes checklist that says who prepared the figures | As Schedule 100 |
| Schedule 24 | First-time filer information | It is the first return after incorporation |
| Schedule 50 | Shareholder information | Any shareholder holds 10% or more |
| Schedule 8 and loss continuity | Capital cost allowance and the running record of losses | A loss is carried forward from an earlier year |
Nothing on this list is charged separately. Whichever schedules the corporation’s own position requires are inside $300.00 plus HST per tax year.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I Need Financial Statements?
No audited statements. The return still carries the GIFI schedules where they are required, showing zero, which is a different thing from a set of prepared statements.
What Is Form T183CORP?
It is the form by which a signing officer authorises the electronic transmission of the return. It is signed on a secure single-use screen before we transmit, and it is included in the fee.
Does a First Return Need Anything Extra?
Schedule 24 is required on the first return after incorporation. The Schedule 24 first return checker confirms it.
How Is the 10% Shareholder Threshold Measured?
Schedule 50 is needed for any shareholder at 10% or more. The Schedule 50 shareholder threshold checker takes the percentages and says which shareholders are in.
Is Anything on the List Charged Separately?
No. $300.00 plus HST per tax year covers every schedule the return requires, the T183CORP package, CPA review and transmission.
